Leaving It All Behind
Genesis 12:1-4
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”
So Abram went, as the Lord had told him.
Abraham bet the farm. He put all his eggs in one basket - the God basket. Abraham took a risk that God would keep his promises.
One of the implications for Abraham is that he left his family. Leaving your family sometimes includes physical distance, as it did for Abraham. In addition, it often means leaving behind the unhealthy or ungodly ways of your family of origin to adopt the values of God's family.
Do you struggle to put God first, in front of your family? Are there values from your family that God might be calling you to leave behind?
