Keep Your Eyes Peeled
One of the little known heroes of the Bible is Joseph of Arimathea, who was the one who took down the body of Jesus from the cross. This description of him in the book of Mark captures what it means to be truly present to what God is up to around us:
He was one who lived expectantly, on the lookout for the kingdom of God. Mark 15:43
This week we’ve been working on turning everyday activities into spiritual practices, infused with an awareness of God. Breathing, walking barefoot, and cleaning toilets - all which are done under quarantine - are simply invitations to live expectantly, hoping for something more to our days that just corona virus anxiety or Netflix binges.
The purpose of these spiritual practices is to become like Joseph of Arimathea so that day in and day out we would be on the lookout for the kingdom of God (where you are aware of God’s goodness and power and presence and healing breaking into our ordinary days).
Take some time to reflect on how you have seen God this week (and it might be helpful to think about how you have missed seeing God as well). HERE is a reminder of that spiritual practice.
As an added bonus, here’s a 2 minute video of Bill recounting a couple of God moments yesterday.
