Making Space to Receive
Then Jesus said to her, “Daughter, because you dared to believe, your faith has healed you. Go with peace in your heart, and be free from your suffering!” - Mark 5:34 The Passion Translation
On Sunday during the sermon on Soul Care: Tenderness, we acquired some breathwork practices for our toolkits from Zoë Towler (those being box breathing and tapping). An additional practice to add to our collective toolkits for soul care can be a making-space meditation from Alexandra Elle’s book How We Heal: Uncover Your Power and Set Yourself Free. Elle indicates that this practice “will require letting go of thoughts, feelings, and things that weigh us down and keep us stuck (p.41).”
Today is the perfect day to go through her exercise I Am Making Space.
Before beginning this meditation, take three deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Quietly read each couplet, spending time letting the Spirit empower you in these ways:
In the presence of fear,
I will make space for courage.
In the presence of self-doubt,
I will make space for self-belief.
In the presence of hurry,
I will make space for slowing down.
In the presence of overwhelm,
I will make space for rest.
In the presence of overthinking,
I will make space for letting go.
In the presence of chaos,
I will make space for inner peace.
In the presence of confusion,
I will make space for clarity.
In the presence of pain,
I will make space for self-compassion.
During stressful and uncertain times in our lives, how might we utilize our faith in releasing to receive and in making space for our current circumstances? How may we show up in the world in the ways God wishes us to?
