A Prayer for Us All
This is the prayer that Katy White prayed over our church and our nation in the Sunday service. Perhaps you could make it your own today.
Lord, this election week will likely be tense and tumultuous, and the outcome, whatever it is, may cause anxiety and discouragement for about half of the people in this country.
And yet.. (I double checked), our current population is 346 million people. ALL of these 346 million people who live in the United States, are human. All of those who vote differently than we do are still human. We are all humans, and we need tenderness. We need soul care. Have mercy on us all.
Lord, I’m reminded today of this verse from Ephesians: “Christ himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.”
Lord, help us this week, to receive your love, to love ourselves, and to love one another. Help us to love neighbor, and to love our enemies. This is hard, Lord. We need you. But you, Lord, are enough.
