My Father Was a Wandering Aramean

Then you shall declare before the Lord your God: “My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down into Egypt with a few people and lived there and became a great nation, powerful and numerous. Deuteronomy 26:5

When God's people are given instructions about entering into the sanctuary to worship, the verse above kicks off what they were told to say. Basically, they are instructed to recount the big story of God's redemption of his people. That story starts with God choosing Abraham who wandered from Aram (thus the line, 'My father was a wandering Aramean'), following God. The story includes twists and turns, valleys and mountains, and over and over again reflects God's faithfulness to his people.

So often we lose our way in the world because we forget that we're part of a bigger story. We get caught in the little dramas of our day, distracted from the truth that God has included us in a story that started way back with a wandering Aramean. Ask God today for a window into the bigger story that is going on in the world and to see your place more clearly in it.
