The Big Story
These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. 1 Corinthians 10:11
Paul tells the church in Corinth some stories from the Old Testament in this chapter, reminding them that they are part of a long, long history and that for thousands of years God has been at work towards the renewal of all things.
Paul highlights in the stories he chooses (1 Cor 10:1-10) some of the great failures of believers in the past, mostly because they didn't grasp that God was writing the story. They thought it was all about themselves.
The reminder that "the culmination of the ages has come" points to how Jesus has come and is bringing the story to its rightful end. How about you - do you forget where you are in the big story? Is there a helpful warning for you in today's passage - not out of judgment but out of love - to remember that Jesus has come and is inviting you to join him in the renewal of all things?
