New Years Day Devotional
Happy New Year! May 2021 be so much better for you and your family and our community and our world!
A simple prayer that may be appropriate for this day comes from Psalm 4 where David is trying to come out of a season of suffering and distress, where people are wondering where will prosperity come from (Ps 4:6). He offers this up as his prayer:
When you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
and trust in the Lord. - Psalm 4:4-5
For the sake of relevance, let’s translate that prayer even more simply, and then pray it for ourselves:
Take a moment to go to a quiet place
Face the anxiety of your heart - and let it humble you enough to seek God
Do the next right thing
Knowing God has got your back - Psalm 4:4-5 (paraphrased)
Today would be a good day to pray that prayer, to think about where you’ve been (2020) and where you’re going (2021) and how you want to approach this new year. Put those things in your own words and say them to God today.
