Power for Good Measure

Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over [with no space left for more]. For with the standard of measurement you use [when you do good to others], it will be measured to you in return. - Luke 6:38 Amplified Version

Have you ever wondered how power could translate as a "good measure" in one’s life? What about in the systems that govern our lives; suchlike those of health, justice, infrastructure, and education? How could power translate as a good measure in those systems? Does it?

For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. - Luke 6:38 NIV

The notion of equity can be perceived as a form of love and justice, and thus, it ends up presenting itself in varying degrees. This is a result of each human life having its own unique set of circumstances, experiences, and backgrounds.

How might these varying intersecting identity markers be represented and expressed in these systems? Are they done so in good measure?

The quote shared at service by Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. comes to mind:

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity. - From the 1956 “Birth of a New Age” address.

We are being called to rise above and move away from exclusion to inclusion.

But love your enemies and be good to them. Lend without expecting to be paid back. Then you will get a great reward, and you will be the true children of God in heaven. He is good even to people who are unthankful and cruel. - Luke 6:35 CEV
