Seeking Wisdom
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. - Proverbs 3:5-6
For some of us, these verses feel old and worn - and sometimes they’ve been used against us. We need to acknowledge this history.
For others of us, these are brand new, fresh and inspiring - and that’s a real gift that we can acknowledge also.
One way or the other, there’s an invitation here to lean into God’s Spirit for guidance and not just doing whatever we want. Sure, God’s Spirit lives within us and we need to learn how to trust ourselves. But as anyone with a little self-awareness knows, there’s both good and bad motives within us. We need God’s help to give into the better angels of our nature.
What might it look like to ask God for help in how to handle a situation you’re facing these days? What would trust look like for you? Perhaps it would mean asking someone else to pray for you. Perhaps it would mean spending some time in quiet, trying to let you mind settle. Perhaps it might mean reading some scripture on a particular topic. Or so many other ways to step into wisdom both inside and outside of yourself. Take some time today to see if you can take at least one small step.
