Simpler than we think

Acts 2:42-47 - All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Living out the Kingdom of God may be simpler than we think.

Today’s verse is a snapshot of what the first churches looked like. Sounds a lot different than what goes on in most of our churches isn’t it? It almost sounds like one big happy family. Well… it was. The church functioned like a family: meeting each other’s needs, celebrating, eating, and worshiping together.

This is a great picture of what the Kingdom of God looks like in ordinary things. This early church lived out the Kingdom in their interactions with each other. For us, we can do the same. We can live as a church family and find God in the normal things. We can eat meals together, we can pool our resources to help each other out, and we worship the God who unites us together in this family. This is participating in the Kingdom of God.

Let’s not limit this to our church family. We can do these things with anybody! After all, they are pretty normal activities. They are activities in the Kingdom of God; we just need to open our eyes to see it.

What are your communities like? Would you describe them as a family, or something else? Take a few minutes in prayer to ponder what it would look like to find the Kingdom of God in your communities.
