What Kind of Messiah Will He Be?

As we lean into our longing for the Messiah - the one who came and will come again - let’s remember what kind of Messiah he’s prophesied to be. Listen in to how Isaiah describes the Messiah:

A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.
In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;
he will not falter or be discouraged
till he establishes justice on earth. - Isaiah 42:3-4

Think about the broken people you know - those who are barely holding on. He’ll be gentle with them. And he’ll be gentle with the broken parts of your heart - and he’ll be gentle with you in the moments when you feel like you can barely hold on.

And he’ll keep on working for justice - faithfully, unfalteringly - until the entire earth experiences the goodness of equity and the end of oppression.

Pause for a moment and take a deep breath. How does this kind of Messiah sound to you today? Pray that age old prayer with those who have longed for his coming: Come Lord Jesus, Come.
