Your Tossings and Tears

You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? - Psalm 56:8

As we continue to think about soul-care, one thing is clear: God sees us. God keeps track of the times we wake up tossing and turning in the night. Our tears are so precious that God puts them in a little bottle and keeps count of them in a little celestial notebook.

If God can pay attention to these things, so can we. We can attend to our anxious thoughts, our sadness, our questions. These are not out of bounds for our spirituality, but very much integrated into who we are.

When Jesus invites us to love, it’s with our whole selves - our heart (emotions), mind (thoughts), soul (spirit) and strength (body). So when we love God, all of these are employed… and the same when we love others and when we love ourselves.

What might it look like to sit with God and attend your ‘tossings and tears’?
