Walking with God

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” - Genesis 3:8-9

The story of Jesus coming to walk the earth is not the first time God has walked with us. Way back in the outer reaches of our story is that original picture of God stepping on the earth, talking long evening walks with us. Some have thought of this as Christ walking alongside the original couple and others think of it as a picture of how Christ always walks with us, whether seen or unseen.

And of course, there’s the hiding that we still do. We long for something to cover us over so that our shame does not show.

Have you ever had a sense of God walking with you in wooded path or a quiet place? Do you even create space like that where God could meet you, or is life just too busy? As the new year approaches, ask God for the grace to walk closely with Christ, becoming more aware of the Spirit’s presence near you.
